Alain Ducros discovered netsuke and inro in 1958 at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
He first came into contact with japanese art after a conversation with then keeper emeritus B.W. Robinson.
Alain Ducros became passionate about netsuke and in 1973 gave up his teaching job to dedicate his life to Japanese art.
Facing the lack of information in french on netsuke and inro, he wrote is first book in 1978 (… - sold out) followed
by another in 1987 (Netsuke et Sagemono - still available).
In 1982 he collaborated with Trudel Klefisch on a Museum exhibition catalogue in Köln.
In 1994 he organized the exhibition and wrote the catalogue "Paris Edo“ convention in Paris. He wrote many
revealing articles in the Bulletin de l’Association Franco-Japonaise and the International Netsuke Society,
and other publications.
He used to have a shop called Aogaï, Rue de Verneuil.
His last book (Promenade dans l'art japonais - 2006 - currently available) written in French, English and Japanese with
copious illustrations, breaks new ground and throws new light on the subject. An exellent reference book on Netsuke,
Inro and smoking implements.
Throughout his professional life he had the opportunity to handle and study exceptional objects, and this is why
he has been able to select the works illustrated here and now works as a consultant.

アラン　デュクロ

1958年、ロンドンのビクトリア・アルベート美術館で根付を目にする。そして最初に日本美術について語る
きっかけとなったのは、同館の学芸長だったB.W.ロビンソンとの出会いである。以来、このすばらしい日本
の美術品である根付の虜となり、1973年、これまでのフランスでの英語教師から、日本美術に携わる職業へ
の転身をはかる。当時、フランスでは、根付や提物についての情報がほとんどなかった。1978年、最初の本
（netsuke sagemono）を出版し、次いで1987年に同タイトルの２冊目の本を出版。
1982年、ドイツにて、トードル　クレフィッシュ氏と共に、ケルンのアジア美術館での展示会カタログ製作
に携わる。　　
その後、パリのヴェルネイユ通りのセルジュ　ゲンズブールの館から50メートルほど離れたところに、日本
美術専門のアンティークショップ「青貝」をかまえ、1997年まで続く。
1994年には、パリで自ら展示会を主宰、「パリ　江戸」と題したカタログも製作する。日仏協会雑誌ブュル
タンや国際根付研究会出版の雑誌に多く執筆し、その他の数々の出版物にも記事を提供している。
2006年に出版された彼の最新の本「日本美術散歩―根付　印籠」は、２冊組。フランス語、英語、日本語
（一部のみ）に訳されており、多くの写真と共に驚きと新しい光をもたらしている。ひとつのすばらしい参
考書である。多くの価値ある美術品を世界中で実際目にし、手に触れるという長年の職業経験を通して培わ
